While users of Verizon Android phones have enjoyed 3G Skype calling for about a year already, Skype extends this feature to everybody else with its latest version release, the V1.0.0.983. The update allows you to make 3G calls without the use of any VZW-sanctioned application.

In addition to this new feature, the said update also included the much awaited fix for a very crucial security exploit that was just discovered last week. The said security hole was found to give third party apps access to users’ personal information.

Thanks to the fix, that’s no longer the case. We even get free 3G calling to boot! All in all, this update can only bring good things to the 3G calling public.

One more important thing you should take note of is that you need to make sure that your device runs on at least Android 2.1 or 2.2 specifically for Galaxy S devices before you go to the Android Market to get that update.
